Built to Help You Buy Smarter

Vanguard Guides was founded on a single belief: the software review industry is broken. Too many sites publish rankings based on who pays the most, not who performs the best. We're changing that.

Our Mission

Research-First, Revenue-Second

Our mission is to produce the most rigorously tested, transparently scored, and genuinely useful software reviews on the internet — full stop.

We are a self-funded editorial operation. While we do earn affiliate commissions on products we review, our scoring methodology is designed to make it financially irrational for a paid partnership to inflate a score. We publish poor scores on tools we have affiliate deals with regularly.

Every reader who uses our recommendations and avoids a $12,000/year SaaS mistake is a win — that's the metric we optimize for.

Expertise Over Hype

We Don't Cover Trends. We Cover Truth.

The SaaS industry is awash in launch-day PR and influencer partnerships. We believe launch-day coverage is almost always meaningless. Here's what we do instead.

We Wait for Real Performance Data

We don't publish reviews based on beta access. We wait for production-track records — real uptime stats, real support response times.

We Cover Pricing Honestly

Hidden fees, usage-based billing traps, and enterprise-only feature gates are called out explicitly in every review.

We Test at Scale

Many tools perform well at small scale. We specifically stress-test with large data sets, high user counts, and complex integrations.

We Talk to Real Users

Beyond our own testing, we interview 3–5 paying customers for every major review and quote their feedback directly.

Our Methodology

How Every Review Gets Made

  1. Tool Discovery & Shortlisting

We monitor Product Hunt, G2 trend data, VC-backed launches, and community forums to identify tools gaining genuine traction — not just marketing spend.

  2. 30-Day Hands-On Testing

Every product is tested by at least two team members over a minimum of 30 days in real workflows — not sandbox demos. We use the tools the way actual customers do.

  3. Structured Scoring Rubric

We score on 6 dimensions: Feature Depth (25%), Ease of Use (20%), Pricing Value (20%), Support Quality (15%), Integration Ecosystem (10%), and Scalability (10%).

  4. Blind Comparison Review

A second editor reviews our findings independently before scores are finalized. Any discrepancy over 0.5 points triggers a third review.

  5. Publication & Ongoing Updates

After publishing, we re-test all tools quarterly or immediately after major product updates. Published dates are listed on every review.
